Dr. Marcia Nickow

An addictions psychologist, group psychotherapist and trauma specialist, Dr. Marcia Nickow, empowers patients to tap into their insight, intellect, creativity and spontaneity to achieve therapeutic breakthroughs. With 25 years of clinical experience, she treats alcohol and drug addiction; relationship, sex, pornography and internet addictions; eating disorders; trauma and intergenerational trauma; personality disorders; and anger and anxiety issues. Her resiliency-based treatment approach emphasizes authenticity, transparency and a depth of concern for patients’ total well-being.

Dr. Nickow developed and implemented an integrative trauma-informed group treatment model in her private practice at Working Sobriety in downtown Chicago, where she leads 19 weekly psychotherapy groups. She has served as supervising psychologist at a nationally known residential treatment center and has worked in inpatient, outpatient, community, hospital, halfway house, forensic, veterans’, and educational settings. She is supportive and directive, compassionate and challenging, process-oriented and goal-oriented. Her therapy groups provide a context for patients to grow and thrive while creating robust recovery and social networks.
